PS 1 Museum & Sculpture Court
Long Island City, New York
Client: NYC Department of General Services
Budget: $620,000
Noted by the New York Times as "one of the best front doors in the city," the museums new entrance and exhibition space transformed a parking lot and service entrance into a dramatic outdoor gallery and performance art space.
The choice of materials is intentionally simple, strong, and flexible. A neutral envelope of rubbed cast-in-place concrete walls and stabilized stone dust paving permits artists complete freedom in displaying their art whether it be fixed, projected, or danced.
The bold P.S. 1 graphics are visible from the elevated subway and provide identity within the mixed commercial and residential neighborhood.
