Greenways

Greenways are corridors of protected open space dedicated to conservation and recreation purposes. Urban greenways often traverse a multitude of site conditions, including brownfields, waterfronts, public and private lands, residential and industrial areas. Mathews Nielsen assists clients in determining appropriate routes and designs for these multi-use corridors. In the Bronx, the firm established design guidelines for eight miles of the Bronx River Greenway, and recently completed a master plan for an innovative greenway network through the Hunt’s Point Peninsula that will reconnect neighborhoods to their industrial waterfront. Our services include:

  • Design guidelines
  • Community outreach
  • Alternative transportation planning
  • Best management practices
  • Maintenance budgets
  • Waterfront enhancement
