Client: New York City Board of Education/ Friends of PS 165
Budget: $230,000

Bright graphic elements transform the topography of an asphalt play yard into an exciting and safe play environment for children at PS 165 in upper Manhattan. Using videotapes of the childrenŐs movement in the open play yard, Columbia University students translated motion into graphic systems based on mathematic, chemical and alphabet symbols and lines. Set within this tracery are fields of resilient surfacing with play equipment and "sausages" of blue safety surface for seating and dividing space.
