Weehawken Waterfront Park
Weehawken, New Jersey
Client: Township of Weehawken
Budget: $8.5 million

As a component of a 92-acre mixed use development along the Hudson River, Mathews Nielsen designed a 14.5-acre public park to be constructed by the developer. Due to a need for active recreational space in Weehawken, the park carefully balances programmed areas, including a track, tennis courts, playing fields, and pool, with informal areas that optimize views of Manhattan, the Hudson River and the striking backdrop of the Palisades. The site is located on a brownfield, which will be fully capped prior to construction. Native plantings will reestablish a natural riparian landscape along the river's edge.
