Baruch College privately funded the design, construction and maintenance for a permanent plaza on East 25th St from Lexington Avenue to Third Avenue in Manhattan. The plaza is the geographic student center of the urban campus and enhances the safety of students circulating to and from different campus buildings. Program elements are intended for use by both students and the surrounding community, including outdoor performance space, book fair, farmers market as well as pedestrian lighting, plantings and gathering spaces.
MNLA's community outreach involved a charrette which was open to both community members and members of Baruch College which included faculty, students and staff. The feedback had a large influence on the programming, flexibility, and materiality of the design. MNLA also presented to CB6 and NYC Public Design Commission as a part of the process.
